Securus’ Personal Emergency Response Business Acquired by Freeus
Freeus is a new sister company to wholesale alarm monitoring provider AvantGuard Monitoring.
OGDEN, Utah – Freeus, a new sister company of AvantGuard Monitoring Centers, has acquired the personal emergency response service (PERS) assets of Securus. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Securus has been a valuable wholesale monitoring customer for AvantGuard Monitoring. It has been exciting to watch their exponential growth due to their innovative mobile PERS products, eResponder and eCare+Voice,” says Josh Garner, president and CEO of AvantGuard. “We are excited about the PERS growth opportunities that we can bring our dealers by combining the two businesses.”

Post-closing, Freeus anticipates the release of new product offerings, including the next generation 3G version of eResponder, Securus’ flagship product. Cary, N.C.-based Securus will retain its GPS tracking business and continue to provide mobile safety and security solutions through dealers and retailers.
“AvantGuard will continue to monitor all major PERS product lines,” says Garner. “Freeus and AvantGuard will be run as two separate companies. While we expect advantages due to the tighter integration between Freeus and AvantGuard, Freeus will have to compete for dealers’ business like any other provider.”

Tom Collopy, president of Securus, says the acquisition made sense for Securus’ customers to link the company’s PERS offerings more closely with a central station. Collopy will be a consultant to Freeus on an ongoing basis.
The Edmonds Group acted as exclusive advisor to Securus for the transaction.
