Sensormatic Acquires Fiber Optics Developer BEC Technologies

Sensormatic Electronics Corp., a developer of electronic security solutions, has acquired the assets of BEC Technologies Inc. of Orlando, Fla. The company designs, manufacturers and markets a combination of hardware and software to provide fiber-optic networks for the transmission of audio, video and data signals over long distances. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

BEC’s primary technology and future products based on its architecture will provide an integrated networking component to Sensormatic’s range of business security solutions where multimedia content delivery is required. “Applications that fully integrate and distribute video and audio and are low cost but deliver high performance are clearly the direction in which our customers wish to go,” says Tom Cashman, senior vice president of Sensormatic’s Video Systems division. “With BEC’s technologies, we will continue to deliver what our customers need to better run their businesses.”

BEC’s founder, Robert Proctor, as well as the BEC staff, will join Sensormatic’s Video Systems division.
