Tyco Fire & Security announces that a jury in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania ruled in favor of Sensormatic and its supplier, All Tag Security S.A., asserting that anti-theft labels supplied to Sensormatic by All Tag did not infringe upon a patent of Checkpoint Systems Inc. In its Feb. 13 decision, the jury also found that the patent was invalid and unenforceable.
In May 2001, Checkpoint filed a suit against All Tag and its customer, Sensormatic, alleging that All Tag and Sensormatic infringed on U.S. Patent No. 4,876,555. The patent in issue was a deactivatable radio frequency label, which is attached to goods for providing protection from theft, primarily in the retail industry.
