Sensormatic Electronics Corp. announces source tagging has received a boost in Latin America with the endorsement of Colombia’s largest retailer, Exito-Cadenalco. The company reports a decrease in inventory theft since it began an anti-theft program with Sensormatic’s UltraMax(r) technology.
Luis Fernando Ortiz, loss prevention director of Exito-Cadenalco, says the retailer has cut its inventory theft in half due in part to a source-tagging program that today involves more than 200 manufacturers source tagging more than 2,500 products. With source tagging, anti-theft labels are placed on products at the point of manufacture, enabling merchandise to be shipped to stores already protected against theft.
“This successful loss prevention program has yielded excellent results because of the combination of various programs that were implemented, such as electronic article monitoring, personnel awareness, data quality, closed circuit television and monitoring of the sales floor by security personnel,” Ortiz says. “All these programs complement each other and together create an environment of security.”
Exito-Cadenalco was formed early 2000 when Colombia’s two leading retailers, Almacenes Exito and Cadenalco, merged. Today, the combined company operates 78 stores across the country.
Sensormatic is a supplier of electronic security solutions to the retail, commercial and industrial marketplaces.
