SIA Launches New Interactive Online Tour
ALEXANDRIA, Va.
The Security Industry Association (SIA) has introduced a new Virtual Commercial Tour designed to provide industry representatives and consumers with a topical view of the systems utilized in a medium-sized commercial security application.
From access control and CCTV to intrusion, fire and sophisticated integrated systems, the interactive, online presentation features information in a high-impact, user-friendly fashion.
“In developing the Tour, SIA had one goal in mind—to drive demand for our members’ products and services,” says SIA Executive Director Richard Chace. “While educational in nature, the Tour is a valuable marketing tool for our industry today. Its overall content and design are targeted at raising the awareness of the features and benefits of our members’ products, technologies and services.”
The tour contains five sections: access control, CCTV, intrusion, fire and integrated systems. Within each individual section, a basic floor plan is used to feature the placement of system components. The floor plan remains the same throughout the presentation to provide a common frame of reference for the viewer.
Self-paced by design, the viewer has the option of both visual and audio narrative. Blinking icons represent the placement of components within a room on each floor plan, while corresponding text and pictorial descriptions of each product are provided in a side bar for easy reference. Viewers may enhance the view of each room with a simple click of the mouse.
More than 15 manufacturers contributed to the virtual tour with information and support in various ways. “As we move forward, additional elements with be added to further enhance the Tour’s current feature set,” states Dave Saddler, SIA Associate Executive Director. He adds, “In the near future, we plan to link the tour to our member database and to introduce a service provider database with both a geographic and service-oriented search field.”
