The Security Industry Association‘s (SIA) Telco Compatibility Working Group (DC-06) is presently investigating interoperability issues with the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), such as DSL and the upgrading of the PSTN to a digital backbone.

Through the DC-06’s membership with the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions (ATIS), T1E1.4, Digital Subscriber Line Transmission Working Group, the working group has been aware that the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) is proposing an American National Standard to replace the recently rescinded Part 68 Rules of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) governing the interconnection of customer equipment to the PSTN, known as project SP-3-0005.

SIA adds that this action could affect industry manufacturers, installers and companies that provide monitoring. All interested parties are urged to register to vote by this Friday at http://www.tiaonline.org. Once the draft document is made available, a panel of experts will examine it and disseminate a plain English explanation of its important points so that industry professionals can make an informed vote.

This issue will be discussed at the SIA DC-06 Working Group meeting at the International Security Conference (ISC) and Expo show April 5 at noon in room 205 of the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas.
