SIAC Honors Huntersville (N.C.) PD for Alarm Management Program

Published: May 9, 2010

Security Alarm Industry Coalition (SIAC) awarded the Huntersville (N.C.) Police Department with the Directors’ Award of Distinction for the success of the department’s alarm management program.

The police department worked with stakeholders, including members of SIAC and the city’s business and residential communities, to develop an alarm ordinance. Additionally, the Huntersville community was educated on ways to reduce false alarm dispatches.

As a result, the city of Huntersville has seen a substantial reduction in false alarms since the program’s implementation in January 2008, according to Huntersville PD Chief Philip Potter.

“The success of the program has allowed our police officers to devote more time to community policing and crime prevention activities,” says Potter, who is a member of the North Carolina Association of Chiefs of Police’s Alarm Management Committee.
