The Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC) will launch a program to foster better relationships with law enforcement across the United States at June’s ESX Expo in Pittsburgh.
The program, titled “Visit Law Enforcement Month,” is designed to bring companies in the security industry together with law enforcement officials to share approaches to improve alarm management practices.
“Historically, the security industry has enjoyed relationships with the approximately 18,000 law enforcement agencies around the country that for the large part have been cooperative and positive,” says Bill Cooper, ADT Industry Relations and head of the new SIAC outreach program. “This program builds on those relationships, particularly to help our industry work closely and effectively with law enforcement officials on legislation and policies dealing with responses to alarms.”
Cooper will teach the program, which will emphasize three core points:
- Encourage local industry people to engage their local law enforcement.
- Promote open communication between the industry, the alarm public and law enforcement.
- Promote industry best practices to address the issue of excessive dispatch requests.
The course will also include sections on how to put together an ordinance task force, implement enhanced call verification (ECV), third party administration, the CP-01 control panel standard, and provisions of the Model Ordinance.
“Our long-term goal is to get our industry working cooperatively with law enforcement to develop local alarm policies or ordinances that implement established best practices,” adds Cooper.
