SIA’s DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS STANDARD IS AVAILABLE

ALEXANDRIA, Va.

The Security Industry Association (SIA) announces the availability of its newly released “Digital Communications Standard – SIA 2000 Protocol for Alarm System Communications SIA DC-04-200.05.” The SIA protocol structures the communication between a control panel and a central station receiver. The basic form of this communication conveys information, such as alarms, alarm cancels, troubles and restorals. This involves transferring information records from the control panel to the central station, and receiving acknowledgements from the receiver for each record. The purpose of this specification is to define a communication protocol that will support current and future needs across a diverse range of control and receiver types. “The SIA 2000 Standard is a highly adaptable standard that meets the needs of today’s complex alarm communications systems, and can be adapted to meet tomorrow’s demands as well,” says Greg Spar, chairman of the SIA 2000 Working Group.
