SILENT WITNESS ACQUIRES MICRO IMAGING DEVICES, PLANS TO INTEGRATE NEW CMOS CAMERA TECHNOLOGY

SURREY, British Columbia, Canada and SKANEATELES FALLS, N.Y.

Silent Witness, a designer and manufacturer of CCTV cameras, announces that it has acquired the Micro Imaging Devices (MID) product line from Welch Allyn Inc., a producer of medical and dental diagnostic equipment. The MID product line incorporates recently introduced CMOS (complementary metal oxide semiconductor) camera chips, an alternative to traditional CCD (charge-couple semiconductor) chips, which enable the production of smaller, less-expensive cameras with comparable image quality and light sensitivity.

“Acquiring Welch Allyn’s MID products is a very strategic move for us and enables us to add a new dimension to our product line,” contends Rob Bakshi, president and CEO of Silent Witness. “The MID division products will be integrated completely into our product line and will enable us to develop enhanced, digital camera solutions at significantly reduced price points. Welch Allyn’s cameras use CMOS technology, which we believe is the next technological innovation for the security industry.”
