Slow Registration Rate for Alarm Sign-up in Connecticut City
GLASTONBURY, Conn.
A low registration turnout for security alarm owners has
police and council members in a Connecticut city worried. A
city ordinance in Glastonbury, Conn. – just south of
Hartford – was passed requiring security alarm owners to
register their systems in order to cut down on false
alarms.
Out of approximately 2,000 alarm owners, about 500 owners have registered in compliance with the ordinance according to the Hartford Courant. “For some reason people aren’t getting the message,” says Lt. Dennis Smith. “We’ve tried to cover all the bases as best we can. Either they’ve missed the message, or they are not getting the message.” Last year, officers responded to 2,191 false alarm calls.
There is an annual fee for the alarm system and owners pay a penalty fee for continued false alarms due to faulty systems or reasons within the control of the owner.
