In the past year, the Smart Card Alliance – a not-for-profit, multi-industry association working to stimulate the understanding and widespread application of smart card technology – has added 54 new organizations as members and increased its membership by 45 percent.
The increased membership comes on the heels of Frost & Sullivan’s Americas Smart Card Market Analysis report that predicted a 27.7-percent compound annual rate growth in the smart card industry in North America during the next five years, according to the Alliance.
Security product and service organizations, which include GE Security, Viisage and LEGIC Identsystems – as well as those in the computer, health care, financial services and transportation fields – constitute the fastest growing categories of new members in the organization.
