South Carolina Community Institutes False Fire Alarm Fines

GREENWOOD, S.C. — The city council here unanimously voted to fine home and business owners for more than three false fire alarms that are responded to by the city’s fire department within a calendar year.

Council members decided that alarm system owners will be given leniency for the first three false alarms on Dec. 20, according to GWDToday.com. However, $100 will be charged for the fourth false alarm, $200 for the fifth false alarms and $300 for each false alarm after that.

Individuals will also be penalized if they fail to respond within an hour of being notified of a fire alarm.
