Speaker’s Broadband Noise Draws Attention, Leads to Safety

Published: December 31, 2006

ONYX
ExitPoint by NOTIFIER
of Northford, Conn.,
is a compact speaker that is capable of producing broadband noise for
egress
situations. Each unit is installed along egress routes and next to
exits. Each
ONYX ExitPoint device is triggered by the structural fire alarm control
panel
when a fire is detected. The generation of broadband white noise, also
referred
to as “directional sound,” is intended to draw the
attention of occupants,
assisting them in locating the nearest exit. It is a relatively new
technology
designed to draw attention above the audible fire alarm notification
appliance.
This helps lead people to safety despite the fact they cannot see the
flashing
strobes.
