Spectrum to Cease Offering Home Security Services

Spectrum has partnered with DIY home security providers Ring and abode to provide customers with replacement security service and products.

STAMFORD, Conn. — Spectrum, Charter Communications’ phone, cable and Internet service brand, recently sent out a notice to customers of its home security services that it will be ceasing the offering on Feb. 5.

“Spectrum offered home security?,” you may be asking yourself. The company inherited the service with its acquisition of Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks in 2016. However, the company never marketed the services like its chief competitor Xfinity does its own.

Over the past several years, Xfinity has created a massive ecosystem that integrates all of its services, from cable, to Internet, to home security (Check out this in-depth feature on how the company is disrupting residential security).

In a statement released by a Spectrum spokesperson, the company says it has partnered with DIY home security providers Ring and abode to give customers exclusive offers and discounts on replacement security service and products for a limited time.

The Ring option includes:

  • $100 with annual agreement – $10 per month after first year ends.
  • No contracts and free professional installation, plus 25% off a Ring camera or doorbell.
  • Free 7 piece equipment bundle with Ring Protect Plus service plan offer

The abode option includes:

  • Free eight piece equipment bundle with Secure Service plan offer.
  • $19/mo. with monthly agreement OR $179/yr. with annual agreement.
  • No contracts and free professional installation, plus 25% off all future purchases (including free shipping).

At one point earlier this year, it was rumored Spectrum was in talks with Ring, Arlo and Nest for its own DIY home security offering.
