SPRING TECHNOLOGIES, CHARLOTTE AIRPORT LAUNCH TRIAL IRIS RECOGNITION PROGRAM OF EMPLOYEES

McLEAN, Va.

Spring Technologies Inc. and the Charlotte/Douglas International Airport have reached an agreement to begin a pilot program (no pun intended) using state-of-the-art iris recognition to control access to restricted areas.  The program is intended to revolutionize airport employee identification and provide substantially higher security.  The Charlotte site is the first airport in the world to introduce the TranSecure(tm) program, featuring iris recognition.  The pilot program will enroll a group of approximately 100 employees.  A simple digital picture is taken of the iris of the eye with a video camera.  After that, a one-second glance into the camera gains instant recognition of the authorized employee.  Based upon access criteria, the employee is then either allowed or denied access to the desired secure area.  The duration of the pilot program will be six months.  “We continue to enhance our security profile.  Making it more effective, and at the same time even more transparent, is quite beneficial,” says Jerry Orr, director of the Charlotte Airport.
