SSI, ADEMCO Reward Readers for Identifying Antique Device

Published: March 31, 2003

TORRANCE, Calif. – Two men have been identified as the winners of Security Sales & Integration’s January “Tech Talk With Bob Dolph” challenge, in which contestants had to name the pictured antique security device – an ADEMCO #35 shunt magnetic contact.

“I saw the picture and recognized it right off the bat,” says Jim Havey, presidenti of Young’s Security Systems Inc. in Springfield, Ill. “Before I got into the security business, my dad had one of those devices on the front door of his appliance store.”

Jerry Payes, regional vice president of Tri-State Alarm in Broomall, Pa., was actually familiar with the product from his own installations. “I’ve been in this business for 27 years and that’s one of the products I used and sold back on the good old days,” he says. “It was an unusual piece of equipment, which is why it stood out in my mind.”

Havey, who won the grand prize of an ADEMCO Vista 10P control panel, and Payes, who received ADEMCO’s DT-7235 dual-technology motion detector as runner-up, were randomly selected from several correct entries. Congratulations to the winners, and special thanks to ADEMCO for donating these great prizes!
