ST. LOUIS — A neighborhood here is getting six new video surveillance cameras that will be monitored by St. Louis Police after three neighborhood organizations raised money to fund the cameras.
It has been a long time coming for the Soulard neighborhood, as neighborhood leaders started talking about getting surveillance cameras last decade. They should have the new cameras installed in the next few months after raising the $90,000 to afford them, according to a St. Louis Post-Dispatch report.
The Soulard Business Association, Soulard Restoration Group and the Soulard Special Business District were the organizations that funded the cameras.
“If a crime is committed we can see them leaving and entering the neighborhood, and it’s a deterrence factor,” says Dani Shields, president of the Soulard Business Association.
The organizations say they hope to add four to five additional cameras a year, according to the report.
