ST. LOUIS – Residents here are claiming that St. Louis Metropolitan Police are intentionally ignoring home security video footage of alleged crimes in the area.
On April 27, a robbery victim’s neighbor said his home surveillance cameras captured an intruder entering and leaving the victim’s home. The following day, another family said their security system caught an eruption of gunfire outside of their home, KMOV.com reports.
The owners of the footage both claim police have not shown interest in seeing the video of the alleged crimes.
The owner of the video that captured the gunfire, John Clauson, said he told police his surveillance cameras were rolling on the incident.
Clauson was at his home with his granddaughter when he heard shots. Video from his surveillance cameras revealed two suspects exit a white Impala and open fire on a home on Clauson’s street.
Bullets hit Clauson’s home and a home of a neighbor. He believes his video footage would help stop the gunmen. The homeowner says police have not talked to him about it.
Detectives are currently working on the case.
A spokesperson from the department says that officers were not aware security footage existed in both cases. Officers are encouraging residents who have surveillance video of any criminal incident to contact the police department.
