Sunflower Labs, a startup based in Silicon Valley and Zurich, Switzerland, has announced a new security system that detects possible threats and investigates them with a drone.
The Sunflower Home Awareness System relies on the drone and a handful of in-ground smart lights to watch the user’s house.
The smart lights act as a sensor which sends the drone into flight when it detects unusual activity. The lights use artificial intelligence to identify disturbances and determine if they are potentially dangerous.
When a disturbance is detected, a push notification is sent to the user’s smartphone who can then launch the drone and monitor footage from it.
CEO Alex Pachikov hopes deployment of the drone will lead to a decrease in false alarms for local police to deal with, according to CNN.
The startup is currently accepting participant applications, and will start beta tests in mid-2017.
