Researchers examining the network camera market since 2004 expect it to break the $1 billion barrier worldwide by 2009, according to a new market report by IMS Research.

IMS sees an already strong market for fixed network cameras being bolstered by a substantial increase in the demand for dome network cameras in the coming years. They say the market, as a whole, will have an annual growth rate of 53 percent.

“When IMS published its last report on the market two years ago, there was a great deal of skepticism about network cameras, but this has passed and users are now ready to embrace the benefits of networked video surveillance,” says IMS senior analyst Simon Harris. “We see the network camera market growing strongly over the next few years as users upgrade their systems to take advantage of the latest technology.”

Harris also says the market will receive a boost from the next generation of network cameras just now beingintroduced, which will include embedded video content analysis capability. He says end users now have a wider selection of models to choose from.
