The 100-camera network of CCTV surveillance set to be installed throughout downtown Jacksonville, Fla., for the 2005 Super Bowl will stay long after the game is over. The contract, funded by the Department of Homeland Security, was awarded to GTSI Corp., and will allow law enforcement to watch for suspicious activity during the week of the game, the Florida Times-Union reports.
Officials are unsure how the system will be used after the Vince Lombardi Trophy is awarded on Feb. 6, but other cities with similar systems monitor for crime and traffic.
Thirteen Florida counties that make up the region’s Domestic Security Task Force will fund $2 million of the estimated $26 million cost.
