Summer has finally arrived which means it’s also peak vacation season. According to Airlines for America , this summer will be the busiest ever for air travel.
Along with record-breaking travel numbers, don’t be surprised to notice an uptick in strange items discovered by airport security.
Though rules for what you can and can’t pack in your carry-on are stringent, you shouldn’t have any issues as long as you use common sense.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, there are many people that fail to do that. In fact, the TSA encounters so many strange items, it has created an Instagram page to share some of them, as well as help answer questions about what is and isn’t allowed in carry-on bags.
Even if something is inert, a replica or just straight up fake, if it LOOKS like something that could be dangerous, DON’T put it in your carry-on. You can pack almost anything in your checked luggage, you just can’t bring certain things through the TSA line.
Bringing a firearm to the security checkpoint can lead to a civil penalty of up to $13,333 or an arrest, according to the TSA. Packing real or realistic replicas of explosive items can also lead to fines or arrest.
