OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Police here are crediting a surveillance camera for helping to apprehend a teenager believed to be involved in the theft of a $20,000 necklace and a wallet from a home here.
Michael Smith was checking on a house he owns while his tenant was on vacation. Upon surveying the home, Smith noticed the back door had been kicked in, likely between Aug. 2 and Aug. 10, NewsOK.com reports.
Smith then reviewed surveillance video from the home, which showed a person carrying a jewelry box from the residence and another running from the home with the wallet. A third person operated as the lookout.
The homeowner then showed the video to people in the neighborhood, who recognized one of the individuals and directed Smith to a nearby home. When a teenage boy left the home, Smith then contacted the authorities.
Police arrested the 15-year-old on a complaint of burglary after his mother identified him as the person from the video.
