FARGO, N.D. – A recent survey of downtown businesses in Fargo reveals that many companies want authorities to install more video surveillance cameras on city streets.
The Downtown Community Partnership (DCP), a pro-business group, issued the survey after the Fargo Police Department asked the group’s CEO Mike Hahn if businesses would support more cameras in the area, InForum reports.
The survey went out in February to 190 businesses. Of the 71 that responded, approximately 75% supported expanding video surveillance in downtown Fargo, noting that the area is safer because of the existing six security cameras installed in 2012 and 2013.
Officials with the FPD say that the cameras are crime deterrents and have helped solve minor and serious crimes.
Additionally, the police department says the cameras should not raise privacy concerns since officers only view the video footage after a major crime has occurred.
Hahn will meet with DCP board members to discuss writing a letter to the FPD in support of more cameras. DCP would not pay for new cameras.
