System Relies on Conventional Cameras to Detect Fire

Published: June 30, 2006

AxonX of Baltimore has a camera-based fire detection system that provides early warning of fire using optical means. The system relies on conventional cameras rather than traditional smoke or heat sensing technology. The AxonX product, which is software-based, looks for visible signatures typical of a fire.

AxonX uses artificial intelligence (A.I.) to detect fire. The system uses an advanced DVR platform to detect flame, smoke and even intruders. Because it piggybacks onto a traditional CCTV system, there are no wires or smoke and heat detectors to install.  Although the product is not UL Listed for life safety, it has an immediate value in preventing property loss in large warehouses and other types of facilities.
