If Rep. Sherry Jones (D-Nashville) has her way, never again will a felon install a home burglar alarm in the state of Tennessee. According to Jones, if her current proposal is adopted this next year by Tennessee lawmakers, a loophole that now allows ex-cons to install home burglar alarms will finally be closed.
Jones told the Ashland City Times that security firms are currently required by state law to run background checks on their employees. However, electrical companies that often install burglar alarm systems are not required to do so. If someone who’s been convicted of a burglary in the past were to work for one of these electrical firms, and if they wanted to turn off a home alarm system, they would have an inside track as to how to do it.
