Safest and Most Dangerous States in the U.S. 2016: Annual Ranking Updated

Over the last 10 years, 26% of U.S. households were victimized by crime.

A report by Home Security List reveals the safest and most dangerous states to live in the United States.

The results were determined by looking at property crime per 100,000 inhabitants over the course of 10 years (2005-2014).

The report shows that North Dakota, New York and South Dakota are the safest states to live in, while the District of Columbia, South Carolina and Washington are the most dangerous.

One can’t help but wonder if the presence of home security systems could help reduce the crime rate in the more dangerous states of the country.

“Traditional crimes against property or physical assaults typically affect one in four U.S. households and just under one in five Americans each year. The reported crime rates are generally stable, suggesting a fairly constant level of crime that only varies at the margins,” says Jeffery Jones of Gallup Research.

With the new findings in this report, members of the security industry can now pinpoint areas of the country that are in need of their services the most.
