Of all the things a park of thieves could steal from a museum in a Canadian city, they chose to steal the security video cameras. That decision has resulted in the arrest of two suspects after authorities say the tapes those cameras transmitted to caught their every move.
The theft took place on March 15 at Exploration Place in Prince George, British Columbia, according to the Canadian Press.
Security video shows three of the museum’s four surveillance cameras being hit repeatedly by the suspects with a large board before they were dislodged. The suspect’s faces are clearly seen looking right at the cameras as they were being stolen, according to police. They are also seen trying to steal the fourth camera before an arriving museum staff member scares them off.
“‘It was the ultimate of ironies,” Exploration Place executive director Tracy Calogheros told the Canadian Press. “I’m not sure what they thought the cameras were doing up there, but they looked up at them so we could get a really good look at their faces. They are very clear, good-quality pictures. You can see the detail of their faces, the logos on their clothing, their dog was even in the video.”
The science museum had installed the cameras just last month in an effort to prevent vandalism.
