Throwback Thursday: SSI’s Website Has Made Big Strides Since 1998

The Internet has evolved quickly over the years. Here’s a look at how SSI‘s website has evolved with it.

Greetings security pros, and happy #TBT, a.k.a Throwback Thursday! I thought it would be interesting to occasionally take a look back at SSI‘s website and see how it has evolved over the decades.

Man, it feels weird now being able to refer to a website and the Internet in “decades.” It feels like just yesterday that I was attempting to sign on to AOL over my family’s landline.

But a lot has changed since then — with the introduction of broadband, fiber and LTE, the Internet has never been faster!

With the power of the internet archive, Wayback Machine, we can go back and look at pages of securitysales.com that are nearly 20 years old.

Below is snapshot of the site from June 28, 1998. As you can see, the homepage is much more sparse than it is today.

Instead of links to specific category pages, there are only a few that mostly relate to the print magazine.

Not many of the links still work, but you can click on the June issue cover and read several magazine features, including one on the SIA’s fight against false alarms, as well as a foretelling feature about the future of doing business on the Internet.

Here’s the link to the page if you want to peruse the features. Do you remember what year you first visited securitysales.com?
