Top 10 Security Stories From June 2020: CPI Controversy, Brinks Acquisition

COVID-19 has dominated SSI‘s top stories since February. It should be no surprise considering the impact it has had on the security industry. Between trade show cancellations, supply chain concerns and physical/social distancing, no one was left unaffected.

Fortunately it looks like we are starting to move past the “COVID cloud.” The only coronavirus-related story to make the top 10 this month was news of ISC West being held in the lower level of the Sands Expo center after being rescheduled. It has since been announced the event will be reimagined as a virtual experience.

Every year, SSI covers WalletHub’s “Safest States in America” report and it is always not only the most popular piece of content posted that month, but one of the most viewed stories during the entire year. This year is no different.

The biggest story directly tied to the security industry was CPI Security CEO Ken Gill’s controversial statements that led to his company losing major clients, such as the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte Hornets.

It wouldn’t be a “top stories” without some M&A activity, and this month it comes courtesy of Brinks Home Security scooping up 114K accounts from Protect America. Readers were also interested in WESCO and Anixter’s new leadership team and organizational structure that will become effective upon the completion of the merger of the two companies. That merger was finally completed last week.
