The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is beginning a feasibility study into the “operational benefits achievable through increased use of biometric, surveillance and other security measures” at airports.
Unisys will conduct the study under a $17 million contract with the TSA. The 20-month study will be conducted in two phases, the first involving 10 unnamed airports and the next covering 20 more.
Biometric technologies, including fingerprinting, facial recognition and iris scanning, will be tested, as well as surveillance cameras at entry points to secure areas. The TSA says it and Unisys will evaluate how those technologies can prevent people without credentials from entering a secure area.
