The Transportation Security Administration has replaced its head of security in light of the ongoing struggles with long lines at airport security.
Kelly Hoggan will be reassigned to new duties, according to NBC News. Hoggan was the TSA’s assistant administrator for security operations since 2013. Darby LaJoye will replace Hoggan.
The move comes as the nation’s busiest airports have struggled to get passengers through airport security in time to catch their flights. There has been some debate over whether airports would opt for privatized security over TSA staff to combat the problem. The TSA and Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson have promised more staff and released a 10-point plan that it hopes will cut back on lines.
But with the summer right around the corner, it’s apparent that the TSA is trying to solve the problem before it gets worse. That is apparent with the appointment of LaJoye, who is currently a deputy assistant TSA administrator and previously was a top security official at Los Angeles International Airport and JFK in New York.
