The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is expecting longer airport security lines this summer and is trying to take steps to prepare for the surge in order to keep lines moving.
Bloomberg reports that more screeners and bomb-sniffing dogs at specific airports where lines are expected to be longer than usual. One such airport of concern is Charlotte Douglas International Airport in Charlotte, N.C., where passengers have missed flights because of long lines.
“TSA Administrator Admiral Neffenger and I are acutely aware of the significant increase in travelers and longer wait times at airports, and their projected growth over the summer,” Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said in a press release.
TSA is also asking Congress for funds to increase overtime, according to the report, as staffing has dipped in the past few years.
It’s also important to remember that the TSA has recently come under fire by members of Congress for speeding travelers through security checkpoints, thus compromising the safety of travelers and airlines.
