TULSA, Okla.—Tulsan alarm owners have a unique new ordinance that gives them two options for police response.
In the first option, end users can register for a permit and have police respond to every false alarm. However, after the third false alarm at the same location, police will suspend the permit until the end users have attended a false alarm school, or have the alarm inspected. After nine false alarms, the alarm permit will be suspended for one year.
The other option for Tulsans is not to obtain a permit. Police will not respond unless the alarm company or end user determines that the alarm was valid or if a crime is in progress. Police will still respond to all panic and holdup alarms.
The city is publicizing the new law with a press conference, inserts in the city water bills and mailed notices to permit holders.
