TUPELO, Miss.—Residents and business owners in Tupelo now must attend alarm user awareness classes after the sixth false alarm in a calendar year. Fines will also be imposed after the sixth false alarm. A $25 fine will be imposed for the seventh and eighth false alarm, a $50 fine for the ninth and $100 for the 10th and each subsequent false alarm.
Ever since the city approved the alarm ordinance in September 1999, false alarms have decreased. In November, there were 305 falses, compared to 424 in August.
