Tyco Broadens Wireless Fire Product Offering With CWSI Deal
Tyco has acquired Commercial Wireless Systems Int’l, a provider of wireless fire detection products.

Commercial Wireless Systems Int'l (CWSI) will be integrated into Tyco's Fire Protection Products business unit.
BOCA RATON, Fla. – Tyco Int’l has acquired Commercial Wireless Systems Int’l (CWSI), a provider of wireless fire alarm and detection technology, for an undisclosed amount.
As part of the deal, the Sunrise, Fla.-based CWSI will be integrated into Tyco’s Fire Protection Products business unit, helping Tyco to broaden its product offering and expertise in wireless technology and systems.
Founded more than 30 years ago, CWSI designs wireless fire alarm product line features frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) technology, coupled with bi-directional RF communication, repeater network architecture and 200 second supervisory polling, according to the company’s Web site.
The firm manufactures all of its products in the United States.
Additionally, the CWSI provides two-day Factory Authorized Training for installing systems integrators. The hands-on training sessions covers all aspects of installation, including programming, system design, signal survey techniques, and maintaining the CWSI product line.
“CWSI is an excellent strategic fit to our business, and it allows us to expand our reach through adjacent sales channels and in segments of the market where we have not been present, says Raj Arora, general manager of fire detection for Tyco Fire Protection Products. “With the addition of CWSI, we strengthen our reach—particularly in the United States market where CWSI already has a strong distributor base.”
Following the acquisition, Tyco’s next quest is to tackle the “Internet of Things,” according to Arora.
“Tyco, already the world’s leading pure play fire and security company, is developing unique next generation solutions that align with our vision and technology for the ‘Internet of Things’, called Tyco On,” he explains. “[It’s] focused on driving value for end users, consultants and contractors.”
