Tyco Int’l Trims SimplexGrinnell Workforce at Mass. Facility
A spokesman said the staff reduction would impact a very small percentage of employees at the Westminster location.
WESTMINSTER, Mass. – Tyco Int’l is reducing the number of employees at its SimplexGrinnell facility here by about 5%, according to a news report.
The global security and fire protection company offered voluntary separation packages to certain workers in its U.S. operations in recent months, and those at the Westminster site who accepted are mostly expected to depart by the end of December, a spokesman told Telegram.com.
Tyco aimed its offer at workers based on their years of service. The number of offers was not disclosed, nor was the number who accepted offers. More than 700 workers will remain at the Westminster site, said Chris Woodcock.
“The program will impact a very small percentage of our local Tyco workforce,” Woodcock said.
Tyco recently moved its headquarters to Ireland from Switzerland. Westminster is the home of SimplexGrinnell, a Tyco division that develops fire alarm, sprinkler and communication systems.
Tyco ended its fiscal year Sept. 26 with revenue of $10.3 billion and profits of $1.8 billion, including restructuring charges and impacts from discontinued operations.
Woodcock said Tyco is undertaking job reductions to improve operations.
“It helps the company improve efficiency and make investments in research and development and other areas that will help the company provide better services to customers,” he told Telegram.com.
