UL Employees Receive Awards for Industry Standards

NORTHBROOK, Ill.

Two employees of Underwriters Laboratories (UL), an independent product safety certification organization, have been recognized with industry awards for their contributions in developing industry code and standards.

Bob James, senior staff engineer of UL’s Regulatory Group, was awarded the 2009 Special Achievement Award by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards Council for his work.

James, a four-year veteran of UL and several NFPA committees, serves as the editor of NFPA 1 – Uniform Fire Code. He is also a former member of the ICC fire code development committee.

Steve Corrado, the primary designated engineer for UL’s Personal Protective Equipment sector, is the recipient of the 2009 Distinguished Service Award from American Society for Testing and Materials’ (ASTM) F23 Committee. The ASTM award recognizes Corrado for his ongoing contributions to a range of standards across several ASTM subcommittees.

Corrado is a 17-year veteran of UL and is an active participant of the ASTM F23 committee, a member of the ASTM D13 committee, as well as numerous NFPA and National Institute of Justice (NIJ) committees.

“UL has a long history of actively working with other standards writing organizations,” says Chris Hasbrook, UL’s global vice president of building materials, Life Safety and Security industries. “We are pleased that not one, but two of our experts have been recently recognized by industry for their contributions to public safety.”
