Finding a control panel compliant with the CP-01 standard is about to get much easier, as UL plans to provide a listing of CP-01 panels on its Web site beginning in June. The site will include a search feature and, according to the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA), is designed to aid those in the electronic security industry toward finding compliant panels.
CP-01 is the standard created by the Security Industry Association (SIA) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) that is designed to provide features to control panels that can reduce false alarms. The Model Burglar Alarm Ordinance by the NBFAA and the False Alarm Reduction Association (FARA) has recommended the use of CP-01 standard compliant control panels since 1999.
The NBFAA has an initial list of 53 compliant panels listed on its Web site at www.alarm.org.
