ULC Extends Compliance Date for Fire Signal Receiving Equipment

Underwriters’ Laboratories of Canada (ULC) has extended the effective date by which new listings must be compliant with CAN/ULC S559-04, Equipment for Fire Signal Receiving Centers and Stations.

The Canadian Security Association (CANASA) says the decision to extend the deadline for compliance to Dec. 30, 2008, was due in large part to industry pressure. The previous cut-off date expired June 30.

ULC made the announcement in a bulletin signed by Director Electrical Operations and Chief Engineer Normand Breton. In the notice, Breton writes, “All existing product must be investigated and found to be in full compliance prior to the new date. The additional 18 months provides the industry with some valuable additional time to make the necessary changes for full compliance.”
