UNICOM EXPANDS SCOPE OF SERVICES, ACQUIRES PAIR OF HOMEWOOD, ILL.-BASED SECURITY COMPANIES

Unicom Corp. is expanding the products and services it offers its business customers by acquiring two Homewood, Ill.-based companies that specialize in automated indoor environmental control and security systems. Hoekstra Building Automation Inc. (HBA) and Access Systems Inc. (ASI) have become the latest firms to join the Unicom family of unregulated businesses. Terms of the purchases were not disclosed. “This acquisition expands our offerings in our growing mechanical services area,” says Paul Elbert, executive vice president of Unicom Enterprises Inc. “By adding environmental control and security systems products to our services portfolio, we are using the latest technology to bring even more solutions to our customers.”

The two acquired companies have approximately 75 employees who will remain employees of HBA and ASI as they are integrated into Unicom Mechanical Services, a subsidiary of Unicom Enterprises. Incorporated in 1994, Unicom Corp. is dedicated to meeting the energy needs of residential, commercial, industrial and wholesale customers.
