JANESVILLE, Wis. — A $1.12 million security upgrade at the University of Wisconsin-Rock County is in the works to improve campus safety, according to a GazetteXtra report.
The county board is scheduled to vote on the plan at a meeting on Nov. 19.

The improved security system is in response to recent school shootings.
The new security system would include:
1. New video surveillance cameras that would replace preexisting analog cameras
2. An “emergency mass notification system” enabling officials to broadcast security alerts to those on campus through e-mail, text messages and other methods of communication
3. A centrally located “code blue” pedestal where people can call in emergency alerts
4. A new fire-alarm system on the south side of campus
5. A telephone system to include in all classrooms
6. Door controls and a monitoring system
7. A “duress” alarm system that alerts authorities of an emergency at the push of a button
