Video Security Leaves Dumb Criminal Out to Dry

ELKO, Nev.
Published: April 13, 2006

A burglary at a laundromat in the northern Nevada city of Elko provided another example of how dumb criminals are no match for even the most basic security system. Trying to make a clean escape after burglarizing the laundromat, police say a suspect stole the store’s six video surveillance cameras but left the VCR and videotape they fed into behind.

The Associated Press reports that left police with a clear image of the suspect – Robert Lynn White – as the system recorded his face each time he removed one of the cameras.

Also providing a giveaway to his identity was the fact that White was seen wearing the trench coat and cowboy chaps that have made him a known fixture in Elko.
