The video surveillance system contained in Butler County courthouse and government center is due for a facelift. The existing system, which was installed in 1991, is out of date. In support of the claim is the fact that county officials continue to use mechanical time-lapse videotape recorders and black-and-white CRT monitors.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, an application for a grant through the U.S. Office of Homeland Security was submitted. Marty Fleischer, Butler County’s grant writer, says that he’s been told that the county stands a good chance of receiving the full $112,707 in grant money to fund the upgrade.
“The county’s emergency plan is based on these offices and the 911 center being operational. This is the core for all action plans. It makes sense to have a system in place that lets us keep an eye on everything,” says Carl Butler, Butler County facilities director.
The upgrade is to include outdoor cameras with the ability to survey the outside of the buildings.
