WESTCHESTER, Calif. — Thieves target a number of valuable items when making their heist. Apparently seat cushions are included on that list, leading to Wednesday’s Video of the Day.

A Westchester, Calif., family’s outdoor home security video captured a man getting out of a car outside of the family’s home, approach the garden furniture and take three couch cushions, worth approximately $100. The man was completely unfazed by the family’s motion sensor lights turning on as he made his way towards the furniture.

“I am still trying to figure out how this guy seemingly ignored our posted Neighborhood Watch signs, motion lights and my window decals,” Greg Ripke told Daily Breeze. “He is leaning over roughly two feet from a window decal as he tucks his items under his arm while looking up and checking for witnesses.”

The theft occurred just after midnight on the morning of Sept. 4.

Ripke, 65, speculates the thief might be a student at Loyola Marymount University, either furnishing a fraternity house or other rental.

“It appears obvious he does not need to do this,” Ripke said. “He is fairly well-dressed and his ‘driver buddy’ and getaway car is a late-model VW Tiguan.”

“People are just out there shopping around on the streets, I guess, and taking anything that looks good,” Ripke later added.
