CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Robberies are down 90% at Lookout Mountain thanks in large part to security cameras that were installed to capture images of cars going up the mountain.
Residents raised $60,000 for the video surveillance cameras that have a sign next to them warning travelers that they could be under surveillance.
The video can be reviewed by law enforcement should a crime be committed. Otherwise, the video recordings are kept in a locked room, according to WTVC.

“No different than going to WalMart. Security surveillance in progress, sort of the same way. Obviously that would be a deterrent itself,” said Chief Randall Bowden of Lookout Mountain Fire and Police Department.
Ten burglaries occurred two years ago, but last year that number fell to just one.
“As a mom, resident and business owner, cameras definitely add a lot more security to our community and makes us feel more safe,” said Cindy Stiles, owner of Mountain Escape Spa. “We can sleep better at night knowing there’s extra precaution.”
