Video Surveillance Shows Pair of California Deputies Repeatedly Striking Suspected Car Thief

Video surveillance captured footage of a pair of sheriff deputies in California repeatedly striking a man who was trying to flee from the officers. The man appeared to give up trying to escape when the officers started striking the man with their batons.

On Monday, the Alameda County public defender said prosecutors should seek criminal charges against the pair, as detailed by the Los Angeles Times.

The security footage shows the officers chasing down a suspected car thief into an alley. The man appeared to give up his attempt to escape and fell to the ground. That’s when the officers started to hit the man.

The deputies have been placed on administrative leave during the internal investigation, according to the report.
