TULSA, Okla. — Homeowers and business owners here are experiencing the benefits of video surveillance on their property, leading to arrests of people suspected of intruding and stealing.

The clear and detailed images from the surveillance cameras are proving effective in capturing images of intruders. News On 6 reports that one victim, Kevin Kallstrom, used his home surveillance video to capture the image of a thief outside of his home in the middle of the night. The footage helped put the thief behind bars.

As the technology has improved, so has the cameras’ ability to capture images of criminals.

The thief took down the camera, but Kallstrom’s DVR had it all recorded and picked up on the suspect’s tattoos on his neck that led to the arrest.

“With the older camera systems it was grainy, you couldn’t really see their face. With these three megapixel cameras, it’s a very clear, crisp picture,” said Logan Thompson of Kazar Security.

The ability to tailor cameras to fit the customers’ needs (scheduling, angles, etc.) as well as monitoring through their smart phones have also made video surveillance more effective.
