A little less than a month after it merged with fellow biometrics giant Identix Inc., Viisage Technology Inc. has acquired iris-recognition access control provider SecuriMetrics Inc. for $28 million. The combined companies become the only biometric security provider to have iris, finger and face identity solutions.
Viisage reached a merger agreement with Identix in mid-January that is expected to close by June. No decision has been made on whether the combined Viisage-Identix-SecuriMetrics will have a new name.
“Iris-based recognition technologies are poised for growth as a highly accurate and mobile option for biometric identification,” said Viisage Chairman of the Board Robert LaPenta, in a statement. “SecuriMetrics has both a unique set of products and services, as well as deep customer relationships at the local, state, federal and international level.”
The SecureMetrics acquisition is being funded by the $100 million cash infusion given to Viisage in 2005 by L-1 Investment Partners.
